Jesus, Priest, Prophet and King

Hebrews 10:32-39

Remember all the sufferings that you had to meet after you received the light, in earlier days; sometimes by being yourselves publicly expose to insults and violence, and sometimes as associates of others who were treated in the same way. For you not only shared in the sufferings of those who were in prison, but you happily accepted being stripped of your belongings, knowing that you owned something that was better and lasting. Be as confident now, then, since the reward is so great. You will need endurance to do God's will and gain what he has promised.

Only a little while now, a very little while, and the one that is coming will have come; he will not delay. The righteous woman and man will live by faith, but if they draw back, my soul will take no pleasure in them.

You and I are not the sort of people who draw back and are lost by it; we are the sort who keep faithful until our souls are saved.

It is by faith we receive what was promised and what was promised to us was a priest, prophet and King.

Hebrews 11:3

It is by faith that we understand that the world was created by on word from God, so that no apparent cause can account for the things we see.

God Saves

Matthew 1:21

‘She will give birth to a son, and she must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins. ‘

The meaning of Jesus is ‘the Lord is salvation.’

God saves us because we are his work of art, we are created in his image to live the good life and to do good where we can.

The solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe prepares us for Advent which is the following week. Advent is a chance for us to shine a light on our savior who is infinitely rich in grace.

He brings hope to those who live in darkness.

He brings love to those who are lonely.

He brings joy to those who mourn and

He brings peace to the downtrodden.

Psalm 67:20-21

May the Lord be blessed day after day, he bears our burdens, God our savior. This God of ours is a God who saves.

Faith, Hope and Love by My Mother Rose's Daily Checklist

The readings especially the Gospel reading for the solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe highlights and basically gives us a checklist.

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, escorted by all the angles, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory. All the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate men one from another as the shepherd separates sheep from goats. He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right hand. Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the kingdom prepares for you since the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a stranger, and you made me welcome, naked and you clothe me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me.

Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a strange and make you welcome; naked and clothe you sick or in prison and go to see you?"

And the King will answer, "I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers or sister of min, you did it to me." Next, he will say to those on his left hand, "Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry, and you never gave me food; I was thirsty, and you never gave me anything to drink; I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, naked and you never clothed me, sick and in prison and you never visited me."

Then it will be their turn to ask, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?" Then he will answer, "I tell you solemnly, in so far as you neglected to this to one of the least of these, you neglected to do it to me."  And they will go away to eternal punishment, and the virtuous to eternal life.

Matthew 25:31-46

Sounds cruel when we read eternal punishment. Although, this Gospel is helping us to choose whether or not we are sheep or goats. These tasks aren't hard to do but why is it so hard for some people? I understand life is hard and we get so exhausted that we have nothing more to give but if I have chosen to follow God and serve God then I know that the race isn't over, I have to keep going checking all the boxes so that one day I can enter eternal life. I've been watching Fr. Mike's homilies on the YouTube channel Sunday with Ascension and when he said, "Here is the thing no one listens to me, I give advice, and no one cares." When I heard that I cried, and I said, "I listen, and I care." Even though he doesn't know I am listening because I live in Australia, and I am watching on my computer, but I am listening, and I care because I want to grow in my faith, I need guidance and direction because I get lost, and I lose my way sometimes.

I am sure that every day I offer someone a drink, I feed the hungry and I make people feel welcomed. Could I do better? Sure, I could do better, we all could do better. This verse though is a good reminder and a good checklist to keep us all on track.

Where do you want to spend eternity?

Christ Our King

Christ Our King

We have King Charles, King of Pop, King of Rock, King of the Hill and our Spiritual King, Jesus Christ King of the Universe.

What is the role of a King?

The roles and responsibilities for a King include the head of state, the nation, the Church of England, the armed forces, and the head of the Commonwealth. However, depending on the historical and cultural context, the King’s duties vary but may include looking after and taking care of people’s happiness and welfare, maintaining order, peace, acting with justice and kindness.

What is the role of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe?

It is by faith we understand the role of Our Spiritual King is to love and serve all of God’s creation. So, why is the solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe an important celebration?

In 1925, Pope Pius XI instituted the solemnity of Christ the King as a reminder that Jesus reigns above all other earthly rulers and his reign and kingdom remain for eternity. According to Church POP, Pope Paul VI moved the feast day to the last Sunday of the liturgical year and renamed the day in 1969 to the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe. The name is another title given to Jesus and it refers to the kingdom of God where Jesus sits at the right hand of God.

John 18:36

Jesus replied, ‘Mine is not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men would have fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. But my kingdom is not this kind.’

This is a statue of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe in Poland and apparently it is larger than the Redeemer statue in Rio De Janeiro.

For this month I was trying to find an image of Jesus Christ the King of the Universe to use as our cover photo, but I couldn’t settle on any because no matter which one I saw the image expressed someone else’s view and opinion of who Jesus Christ our King is. So, I decided to use words and bible verses to express my deep understanding of who Jesus Christ our King is.

Who is Jesus Christ Our King of the Universe?

As we all know he is the promised one, he is the one we all believe in and live for. Jesus is the anointed, we receive him through the Eucharist, we worship him, we testify by writing and talking about him and we gaze upon the cross where he promised one of the criminal’s paradise Luke 23:43.

Over the next few weeks, I want you all to think of the saints we have learnt about over the years, including this year and think about what we can learn from their lives? Saints are examples for each one of us and their relationship with Jesus opens our hearts and minds to grow closer and to become more like him. To become more like him we must learn to love and serve the Lord God with all our hearts, with all our souls, with all our minds and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
