Saint Bridget, Birgitta of Sweden.

 “Close your ears to empty words so that you may come to hear the Angels, ‘Song”

Bridget (Birgitta) of Sweden.

 Last year, I shared a little on Bridget (Birgitta) of Sweden who was a mystic, saint and founder of Bridgettines Nuns and Monks after the death of her husband of twenty years. Birgitta of Sweden lived her message in her life, she is also known as “the Swedish Joan of Arc” and one of history’s ‘strong women’ who had many opportunities to speak out and be heard by those in the seats of power. What she leaves behind is a permanent legacy in that she founded a religious order.

Saint Birgitta, teaches us, and is an example of what it is to understand the right Christian faith to which we faithfully bind ourselves too. It is our job, our mission to carry on the works of God, here on earth and to humble ourselves. We call upon our Blessed, may he be our Lord Jesus Christ, and may he come out to meet us, our God and Christ.

At times he conceals himself from us, this is what a Bridegroom usually does and this is what he did to Saint Birgitta who is often-mentioned as the Bride of Christ so that he might be the more ardently desired by her.

So, let us finish by asking St Bridget to pray for us;

“O Sweet Jesus! Pierce my heart so that my tears of penitence and love will be my bread day and night; may I be converted entirely to Thee, may my heart be They perpetual habitation, may my conversation be pleasing to Thee, and may the end of my life be so praiseworthy that I may merit Heaven and there with Thy saints, praise Thee forever.

Amen”
